Big J at Sunset (Taken by Tom Helvig, date unknown) Spotlight Page

Since opening day in October of 2001, the Battleship New Jersey has welcomed thousands of visitors to her decks. These visitors have taken with them lasting impressions of a great ship and a national historical treasure.  Part of their experience aboard was made special thanks to the day-to-day efforts of hundreds of restoration volunteers, performing the necessary (and often dirty) work details to make her “Ship-Shape” again. In addition, our volunteer tour guides (Docents) work hard describing the heart and history of the ship, and make it come alive for our visitors with facts and stories about the ship.  We honor just a few of them with their photos on these Spotlight Pages.

In the weeks and months to come we hope to post photographs of all our volunteers on these pages.
These are men and women with one common purpose.   To bring the Battleship New Jersey
into prominence once again, and achieve our goal as:

Benchmark of all United States Navy Museum Ships - Battleship New Jersey (BB-62)

Our volunteers and tour guides come from backgrounds including the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, National Guard, Civilian and general work forces of the Delaware Valley.   We thank them all with

BRAVO ZULU! (Well done!)

Photos and captions featured on this Spotlight page are provided by a volunteer buddy of mine, retired Navy Master Chief Tom Helvig, a volunteer onboard since February 2001. Tom has no objection to anyone downloading these photos as long as they are not used for commercial purposes.

For those of you living at long distances, who may not be able to visit the ship for a while, Tom will try to provide photos of areas you'd like to see.  This page will be an ongoing feature so if you'd like to see a photo of a specific area, e-mail me and we'll try (not a promise, but we'll try) to post it for you.  In the meantime, hope you enjoy the new Spotlight Page, click on the links below to view the photos Tom has taken.
