30th - May 1st Photos Page |

Two
years ago today, April 30th, I spent my first day onboard as a
volunteer. Since that first day I've made the trip to NJ from
Northern Virginia 50 times, and have chronicled the ships restoration
process in photos on the pages of this site. To say the ship has
come a long way in that time is a serious understatement. To see
what I mean Click Here to see photos
taken on my first day onboard. We've accomplished so much in the
last two years, and perhaps the crowning achievement was the recent
presentation of the 2003
Governor’s Award for “Mobilization of Volunteers" to the
ships Volunteer
Crew. I was onboard on the 30th to work and spent the day
polishing brass down on Broadway. I was also onboard on the
evening of the 1st to attend a Volunteer Appreciation event held on the
fantail by the Home Port Alliance. There was a buffet dinner and
it was great to see many of the guys who are onboard during the week,
since the bulk of my time spent onboard is on Saturdays. It was a
great event and all the volunteers received certificates for their
contribution to the Governor's Award. As always I took a bunch of
photos both days and have included a selection of them below for your
enjoyment. My next
day onboard will be Saturday, May 10th, hope to see you there, we've
still got lots of work to do! Hope you enjoy the photos. Kurt, mom
should be proud!!

I
thought that maybe if I showed you all the deluxe accommodations the
Brass Team enjoys onboard, that you would come running down to the
ship to hang out and shine brass. Well, here it is, the Brass
Shop. |

It's
located down on Deck 2 in what used to be the Dental Clinic. It's
well equipped with all kinds of power tools and stereo sound, what's
not to like? Come on down and join the club! |
