Well, here we've flashed ahead almost
eight weeks. I've been onboard every Saturday since my last
posting and things on the ship have changed dramatically from my point
of view. There's been a change at the top with the old
CEO/President resigning and a new man stepping up. As the new CEO
got settled into his position it quickly became painfully obvious how
bad the ships current financial situation is. The new CEO has held
several meetings with the volunteers, carefully explaining the situation
and asking them to make a donation if they can, or go out and try and
get donations from friends and family. He also asked the Board of
Trustees for donations and for them to go out and shake the bushes for
donations to try and make up a huge shortfall. According to the
new CEO, the ship
is
currently behind on paying bills that total in excess of $600,000.
In addition to asking the volunteers and Board Members for donations, a
Spring Fund Raising Campaign has been launched featuring t-shirts,
commemorative bricks on the pier, and a wall plaque featuring an
authentic piece of teak decking from the ship (for those who read The
Jerseyman this campaign was highlighted in the last issue). For
more information about our current situation, or to see how you can help
by making a donation and receiving a great battleship t-shirt, click
Here.
The photos below are from a rally that was held today on the ship
to show support for keeping her in Camden, NJ. Obligations at my day job
prevented me from attending this event, but one of my fellow volunteers
provided a bunch of photos for me to post for all to see. Since I
wasn't there my normal captions are not in place, but at least you know
what the event was for. All I can say is we are in a desperate
situation and need to raise a huge amount of cash in a pretty short
period of time. If everyone who reads this makes a donation we
would be well on our way. Donate $25 and get a great battleship
t-shirt, or donate $100 and put a customized brick in the pier or get a
plaque featuring an authentic piece of the ships teak decking. Please
help if you can, and please pass on the word that our ship needs help.
Thanks in advance for your support, I'm hoping that working together we
can all get the ship "back in the black."
